17th
March 2008. The Orthopedics
Department at IGMC Shimla
has been working at
full capacity for the
past 2-3 months owing
to snowfall and bad
weather. Another factor
owing to the incidence
of fractures and injury
is rising osteoporosis.
Despite a definate shortage
of nurses, the doctors
and nursing staff are
doing an excellent job.
During our recent survey,
it was found that visitors
and patients are in
gratitude and full praise
of the doctors, staff
and technicians. Several
departments are working
together to ease the
discomfort of patients
and provide prompt medical
aid. Some noteworthy
names mentioned were,
Dr. Mukand Lal, Dr.
Manoj Thakur, Dr. Rajeev
Kapila, Dr. Sanjeev
Asotra, Dr. Surinder
Singh Sodhi, Nurse Usha
and Radiology Technician
Mr. Basant Thakur.
In the recent past,
there was a concern
regarding Dr.
Mukand Lal's transfer
to Tanda, which
is on hold. However,
most patients and their
families are in gratitude
to him and feel that
his expertise, experience
and professionalism
in his field are required
at IGMC. He is presently
Prof and Head of Orthopedics.
IGMC has patients who
come from all rural
and urban areas of Himachal
and a strong and able
head in this department
is a must. Indira Gandhi
Medical College came
into existence in the
Year 1966. There are
more than 31 specialised
departments which are
functioning in the IGMC
with the 260+ strong
teaching staff.
