THE NEW YEAR AND RESOLUTIONS
by Vanita Khanna.

Ah! Another New Year just round the corner. And we all want to recollect the year that was. What did we achieve what did we loose?
new year

A year which was full of the unexpected contrasts and was an antithesis in all ways. There were new relationships built, some old ones became stronger and some old ones lost touch.

Today as I sit and make a list of people who are dear to me, to whom I should send my wishes, for a Prosperous New Year. These thoughts cross my mind. We all don’t know what the year will bring for us. But we still take our loved ones for granted. Thinking that there is always tomorrow. But alas, that is not the way life works. The only rule about life is that it has no rules.

disaster before new year

The most recent example for this is the Tsunami disaster. Complete families were swept away. Thousands of people missing. People who were out for holidays. Who will never reach home to their loved ones. Spouses dead, children dead. It makes us feel so small and so insignificant in front of nature, however advanced science may be. There are so many things that are beyond our control.

So, this year, I intend to give my best to all my near and dear ones. Reach out and let them know that I care, and love them. For each relationship is like a gem. The older it gets, the more precious and beautiful it becomes. To save and nurture it, is the most beautiful thing in the world.

For when we die, we will not be known by our material possessions, but by the words we spoke and the way we made our loved ones feel... 'so special and unique'.
