IN PURSUIT OF ETERNAL HAPPINESS
By Vanita Khanna

Happiness. Don’t we all wish that we are happy and content always. But I guess, it is not as simple as it sounds. Man has been known to do so many things all in the name of happiness.
pursuit of happiness himvikas.org

Since the day we are born to the day we die, we are told that we are supposed to look happy all the time. An infant gets across his needs by crying. As children, we cry and throw tantrums to get our wishes fulfilled. As we grow into adults, we are told that we should control and take charge of our emotions in front of the world. Men per se are not encouraged to cry, taking it to be a sign of weakness. Where as, women are treated with pity and compassion, when seen crying.

I believe, that tears have a different language of their own. They sometimes put across emotions where words fail. So why not accept them as an integral part of our lives. Tears help in relieving our pent up emotions, remember long lost loved ones, mend broken hearts, show moments of immense happiness, grief and pain.

Happiness is a relative term. It varies from person to person and from time to time. Some of the things which give joy would be – finding pure unconditional love, a beautiful painting, getting wet in the rain, a surprise gift, the birth of a child, a sport well played, climbing the highest peak. The list is endless.

Nowadays, people in pursuit of Happiness go to all kinds of lengths. From worshipping God, to Yoga and meditation.

Mankind as a race is always running after the eternal truth to attain Nirvana.

It is a state of mind.

But hey wait, in this race for Happiness have we not forgotten to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. I truly believe that true happiness lies within us. ‘Happiness Is a Habit, Cultivate It.’ If we decide to do at least one thing in the day which makes us truly happy life wouldn’t be that bad. To some a rising career is ultimate happiness to another working for a noble cause does the trick.

To enjoy true happiness we should experience sorrow also for then only will we know the true worth of it. For joy and sorrow go hand in hand. For life is never black or white but varied shades of grey. There lies the beauty of a life fully lived.
