On
being asked to pen down my views
on whether “today’s
youth
is emotionally
unstable but monetarily sound” the
following thoughts come to mind.
Undoubtedly,
today’s youth is emotionally unstable.
They live their lives without
moral values and character. They
are monetarily sound and have disposable
income to realise their desires.
They are shaky as they don’t want
to listen to their elders
or parents. They don’t
believe in morals and are not socially
responsible. Their desire and craving
is to be different and more affluent
from others around them. When others
copy them, they feel flattered and
accepted in their peers. They create
an artificial social status for themselves.
Today most youngsters regard money
as the sole yardstick of their happiness.
The rich children get sufficient
funds from their parents or guardians.
They have an easy life. They have
everything but sadly they don’t respect
their parents. They are used to getting
what they want, by throwing tantrums
or arm-twisting. If their parents
don’t give in to these pressure tactics,
they are even capable of running
away or taking drugs. Seeing them,
the low and middle class children
around them get influenced. They
too want to live this easy lifestyle.
To live this lifestyle they waste
their parents hard earned money of
profitless luxuries and form bad
habits. Youngsters today are slaves
to cable T.V influence and fashion.
They see films and serials and want
to emulate the stars, in talking,
dressing and walking the ‘cool’ strut.
They run after all the showy things
around them. They try to buy their
friends with these fake lifestyles.
Sadly
these children have not learnt
the basics of character building.
As they lack parental guidance,
owing to the absence of one
or both parents at home.
It is because in today’s
tough times, it is imperative
that one or both parents
work.

And
usually in affluent families, the
fathers
are busy making money and the mothers
are busy being social butterflies.
By enlarge, today’s youth lack morals,
values or principles. This is the
generation of ‘I, me and myself.’
Show off and being popular at any
cost. Media and business houses are
sadly cashing on this phenomenon.
The youth should remember that
“if wealth is lost, nothing is lost;
if health is lost, something is lost
and if character is lost, everything is lost.”
I feel that parents and guardians
should be more understanding and
open in their relationship with their
children. Yet at the same time, be
more alert and wary of the hidden
dangers associated with being teens. |
